A cross between Sid Vicious and Nick Cave, with a botched Robocop-esque cyborg reconstruction going on.
Snog Crash Crash Psy-Harmonics (Australia) This is dirtier than the contents of psyreviews’ secret dwarf porn folder. Taken from the forthcoming album Snog Vs The Faecal Juggernaut Of Mass Culture (really), it’s not desperately unlike Aphex Twin doing a karaoke of the Stones’ Jumpin’ Jack Flash. The original version is a messy, punky affair – a track you wouldn’t want to leave your girlfriend alone in a room with. Crash Crash vs Tim Real sounds less like being stalked by a gang of paedophiles, more in the territory of a glitchy Elastica underpinned by a tight, edgy rhythm section. Crash Crash vs Tim Wright is filthy two-step with added Ginger Baker, while Crash Crash vs 8 Bit Apocalypse is pure nintendocore-on-toast with the sort of 303 abuse that should be reported to the authorities. Turn On Your Brain Baby is delightfully quirky, reminding me in places of a more XXX-rated Primal Scream. Deep amyl techno. Finally there’s an acoustic version of King Of Hate, a cracking tune for post-pub, post-relationship, post-funeral, or post-coital. Here David Thrussell’s voice takes on a chillingly compulsive new presence; I’m not sure I’d really want him in my room singing to me, but the lyrics and delivery sound great. A cross between Sid Vicious and Nick Cave, with a botched Robocop-esque cyborg reconstruction going on. Puzzlingly delightful. 8
